India won the toss and decided to bat first.  India scored 262 in front of South Africa on the basis of Sehwag and Rahul Dravid's half-centuries and those 49 runs by Yuvraj Singh.

South Africa's team started chasing 262 runs did not start well.  Opener Grahame Smith was caught by Yuvraj Singh on  Zaheer Khans  bowl for a personal score of only 4 runs when the team's score was just 14 runs.

South African batsmen Jack Kallis and Herschelle Gibbs batted well and took South Africa to a strong position.

At one time it seemed that South Africa would easily win the match as they had scored 187 runs in 35 overs and had lost just one wicket.

The batsmen Harshalle Gibbs were playing on  personal score of 116, when he suddenly started feeling tired, so he had to leave the field.

When batsman Herschelle Gibbs left the field, South Africa needed 74 runs from 90 balls to win and their nine wickets were still left.

Leaving batsman Herschelle Gibbs' ground became the reason for India to return to the match.

Bowler Harbhajan Singh dismissed two South African batsmen for two consecutive balls.

Due to this, the South African team came under a lot of pressure and India made a tremendous comeback in the match.

By the end of the match, the South African team failed to get under pressure and lost the match.

India defeated South Africa by 10 runs to secure their place in the finals.
